Nail the installation process with these easy steps
The smooth function of your new AC depends on how do you install it in the first place. We’ve read tons of complaints about the ACs that stopped working, but they are not to blame, the installation process is the one that was poorly made.
If the installation isn’t properly done, your AC will not perform as it should, so stay with us to find out how to do it!
There are several brands of air conditioners out there, and many of them have different attachment methods. Usually, they come with instructions attached, so be sure to follow them.
First, you need a double-hung window that opens vertically and an electrical outlet that can supply the necessary current for the air conditioner.
Open the window
You need to completely open the bottom of the window and remove any window screen, if there is one, then proceed to clean the sill and channels with a vacuum.
Extensions
Most units come with accordion or sliding extensions that you need to slide to completely fill the opening, while others have them already attached. It is advised to prepare them before putting the AC in the window opening.
Prepare for the upgrades if necessary
There are some units that sit on the windowsill, others have special rest brackets that need to be attached to the sill. Depending on your unit, you need to install the brackets according to the producer’s instructions. Do not forget to level the unit according to the recommendations as well.
Lift the Unit and Proceed by lowering the window
After you attached the mounting brackets, you need to lift the unit, slide it into the window opening from INSIDE the room into the perfect position, and lock it into place on the brackets.
Then lower the window sash so it will fit right into the channel on the top of the unit. The channel should be flat against the lower window sash. Then slide the accordion extensions to fill the opening.
Seal everything
After everything is in place, you need to secure it. Use foam to seal the inner perimeter of the opening and caulk around the outer perimeter.
Plug in the unit
When the foam is dry and fixed, and after you check the unit again, plug the unit to enjoy the cool. If the unit has a reset button, press it and wait for the cool air to pass. Enjoy your moment.
